Joseph Sollenberger letter, 18 January 1864

In this letter to his son James, Joseph Sollenberger writes from home in Dover, Kentucky, to say the family got his previous letter. Sollenberger tells his son that they have heard he is doing well from family friends whose sons are also serving in the military alongside James. He writes about people the family knows that have died in the war, President Lincoln, and the bad weather. Sollenberger concludes the letter by updating James on how family and friends are doing at home. The letter is written on a sheet of paper with the word "UNION" printed across the top in stars and stripes, and a picture of a tree with American flags for leaves and the states' names underneath.
